Dr John Sullivan MB BS (Hons1) FACD is an experienced Dermatologist working for nearly 2 decades in both academic teaching institutions and private practice both in Australia and Canada. His areas of specialty include general (psoriasis, acne and rosacea), skin cancer, laser and cosmetic dermatology. He is involved in national and international clinical research and medical education.
Dr Sullivan aims to provide the optimal treatment for people with skin problems or concerns with a personalised patient-oriented focus.
Dr Sullivan’s private practice is located in the newly designed and fitted out specialty dermatology rooms at Kingsway Dermatology & Aesthetics. He operates at the co-located Ramsay Health Care Kingsway Day Surgery. At Kingsway Dermatology & Aesthetics he has access to some of the latest dermatology equipment for skin assessment and treatment, and is assisted by other qualified dermatology specialist nurses and overlapping medical specialists. Leading the way in clinical research, Dr Sullivan is the principal investigator on numerous dermatology trials, ensuring that he is up to date with new advances in the field of dermatology and laser dermatology. His expertise sees him regularly presenting papers to other medical specialists, overseas, and in Australia.
Dr John Sullivan graduated from the University of Sydney in 1992 and was awarded first class honours. After completing his internship and residency at the Westmead Hospital he was admitted into advanced training in dermatology with the NSW faculty of the Australasian College of Dermatologists. He obtained his fellowship in 1998 and was awarded with the Presidents medal for pharmacology and therapeutics. He has received a number of awards including the Bernie Amos Travelling Fellowship and Florence Bequest along with intern and staff excellence awards from Westmead Hospital.
In addition to his training in Australia, Dr Sullivan has spent time at the University of Toronto, Canada pursuing clinical and research interests where he was a fellow and Chief Resident with their dermatology, clinical pharmacology and drug safety programs (1999-2001).
Dr Sullivan has experience as a consultant dermatologist and senior staff specialist at two teaching hospitals, Liverpool Hospital and Westmead Hospital. While at Liverpool Hospital, and its area hospitals, he was appointed as head of the Dermatology Department. He has also been a consultant dermatologist with the Skin & Cancer Foundation Australia (The Skin Hospital) where he was director of product testing and involved in research and clinical trials. Dr Sullivan has held a conjoint appointment as a senior lecturer at the University of New South Wales, and spent considerable time in private practice in the Sydney.
So far Dr Sullivan has authored and co-authored a number of textbook chapters and had published a number of editorials and peer-reviewed articles in respected medical journals including the British Medical Journal and British Journal of Dermatology in areas including acne, drug safety and psoriasis. He is involved in teaching and training dermatology registrars and speaks regularly at national and international meetings and congresses.
