Contractions of facial muscles result in expression lines that, with time, can become increasingly evident on the face. These lines are also known as wrinkles or furrows. To soften/reduce these various expression lines a muscle relaxant can be injected. This injection blocks the brains signal to the muscle to contract, resulting in a smoother appearance.
Muscle relaxant injections are used to treat frown or glabellar lines (the lines between the eyebrows formed when you frown, squint or concentrate), horizontal forehead lines, along with lines radiating from the corners of the eyes (crow's feet). These injections can also be used on the lower face and neck including the masseters, submentalis muscle, platysmal neck bands, and depressor anguli oris, for treating and preventing jowls and/or for the Nefertiti neck lift.
Improvement in the appearance of your wrinkles can start within days and usually lasts for three to four months. Repeated injections are required to maintain beneficial effects.
These same muscle relaxant injections can also be used to treat teeth grinding. This involves treating the associated masseter and/or temporalis muscles to reduce associated pain, teeth grinding and can enhance the facial appearance and contour of the jawline. See also axillary hyperhidrosis.
