Excess fat or fullness below the chin can occur in all body types and is not limited to those who are overweight. This can have a negative impact on a person’s facial balance, giving an older, heavier look that can lead to lower self-esteem.

What is in the injections, and how does it work?

This treatment is based on a naturally occurring active ingredient that breaks down fat cells resulting in their permanent destruction and removal (lipolysis of adipocytes). This has been shown in controlled clinical trials to result in sustained, permanent improvement in people with moderate to severe fullness under the chin (the double chin).

This is a targeted treatment. When expertly and correctly utilised it specifically targets fat and not other parts of the skin and subcutaneous structures.

How many treatments are needed? Are combination treatments better?

This varies between individuals. For most people 2 to 4 treatments are needed. These are spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Benefits and improvement continue to be seen in the following 12 weeks.

Recommendations for treating double chin’s vary depending on a number of factors including the severity along with the degree of skin laxity. There are now several non-surgical options that work well together to target unwanted fat in this area plus tighten the skin and assist with contouring.  These include Radiofrequency (RF) Needling and Ultraformer MPT. Often a combination of fat dissolving injections and/or one of these technologies will be recommended depending on your clinical need and preferences.

What is involved and is this treatment painful?

There are a number of very effective measures that we follow to make this fat dissolving treatment comfortable. At KDAA this includes application of a strong anaesthetic cream followed by administration of both a long and short acting locally active anaesthetic. Anaesthetic is fanned into the entire area being treated. Cool packs are utilized if needed.

After anaesthetic and preparation of the treatment area, the unwanted under chin fullness / fat is lysed using carefully placed, targeted injections to shape and restore definition in the area.

What are the risks and Aftercare?

The treated area will be swollen and tender and transient lumps can be felt. As with all injections bruising can occur. This settles but may be visibly noticeable in the days or a week following treatment.
