The Nordlys (Danish for Aurora Borealis ‘Dawn of the North’) has brought new capabilities to laser and light treatments by allowing the delivery of high energy light in sub-millisecond pulses. This was approved for therapeutic use in Australia mid 2015.
The treatment of skin redness and flushing due to rosacea, broken capillaries and vascular birthmarks involves selectively targeting thecausative blood vessels.
This laser and intense pulsed light device is for the first time able to combine Selective Waveband Technology (SWT®) with a highly adjustable short pulse duration (including sub-millisecond pulses) previously not possible or available on a medical intense pulsed light device. Preliminary studies with this new technology suggest benefits over the previous gold standard (the pulse dye laser), with superior results, better tolerance and other skin benefits such as improved skin texture.
Studied cases reported include those previously treated with limited benefits with other lasers (Prof A Troilius Rubin, Malmo Sweden).
We have observed similarly good clinical results utilizing this new laser and intense pulsed light platform.
