What is it?
Ultraformer MPT uses specially focused ultrasound energy to target different skin components including collagen and fat containing layers to produce skin tightening, lifting and contouring. Its new ultrabooster handpiece combines the benefits of micropoint technology (MPT) ultrasound with the enhanced and assisted delivering of skin actives and cosmeceuticals into the skin’s living cell layers for a range of additional benefits.
What are the usual or expected outcomes / benefits?
Ultraformer MPT treatment is designed to produce skin tightening, lifting and contouring. This can be used for the lower face, jowls, neck (including double chin), upper eyelids, and brow along with other body sites from the neck to bottom.
The Ultraformer MPT also improves the appearance of wrinkles and fines lines along with skin texture.
Inclusion of the Ultrabooster DSB serum adds skin hydration and plumping and other actives. This has been designed to brighten, tone, and assist in skin regeneration and fine line and wrinkle improvement.

How does the Ultraformer MPT compare to older technology devices?
The Ultraformer MPT represents a significant advance and improvement on older technologies. Treatment is faster and less painful without compromising clinical skin benefits (these are increased by the new MPT or micropoint technology that produces a greater density or amount of skin treatment spots). It’s many handpieces and modes along with the new ultrabooster handpiece allows us to better target different skin areas and skin depths more flexibly. This allows tailored treatments that can focus on your skin concerns.
What is involved?
Different cartridges allow the ultrasound energy to pass through the epidermal layer and work by focusing the ultrasound energy into points targeting different skin depths. This results in focused energy that targets the collagen containing skin layers including the dermis and the skin’s supporting fascia including the SMAS or Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System. With the Ultraformer MPT, 2-3 different cartridges and various program treatment modes are usually utilized to enhance results depending on the area being treated (differences in skin layer thickness). By utilizing different cartridges during the same treatment both superficial and deep components of the collagen layer can be treated along with the head and neck’s supporting SMAS.
How does it work and what does micro- and macro-focused ultrasound mean?
The micro-focused ultrasound works by precisely heating and contracting collagen, causing coagulation and repair resulting in new tighter collagen formation. This can be used in combination with the established macro-focused mode to better and more effectively target skin areas including laxity. This remodelling continues for 3-6 months after your Ultraformer MPT treatment.
The Ultraformer MPT’s micro- and macro-focused settings can be used in combination to also target and treat bulging areas of adipose or fat tissue such as a double chin or jowls by both targeting this unwanted fat combined with associated skin and fascia laxity. This fat targeting and tightening can be used to help restore a more youthful contour.
Macro-focused ultrasound is mainly utilized for off head and neck treatment sites.
What is the ultrabooster handpiece?
The ultrabooster handpiece represents an exciting addition to enhance both skin benefits and the effective delivery of skin actives as part of your treatment. Instead of using ultrasound gel, an active serum is utilized. The ultrasound enhances the penetration into the living skin of the serum actives and can also increase their uptake by the cells where many of their beneficial effects are targeted.
The DSB ampoules utilized contain antioxidants, skin moisturisers, peptides and other actives to help brighten, moisturise and assist in skin repair.
What does MPT or Multi-Point Technology mean?
MPT allows both a faster and less painful treatment which generates a greater density of smaller focused energy points. This greater amount of small, fractionated treatment areas enhances collagen contraction, remodelling plus contouring.
What is involved? How often are my treatments?
1 – 3 monthly treatments may be initially recommended depending on your skin concern
Along with an annual maintenance treatment
Duration Treatment takes 30-45 minutes depending on the area treated
Downtime There is usually little downtime following treatment. This includes some skin redness and minor swelling (and tenderness). Occasionally higher energies can cause transient pinpoint bruising.
Aftercare Gentle skincare is advised for the 2-3 days following your procedure
What other treatments does this work in combination with?
With the Ultraformer MPT and Ultrabooster handpiece and serum delivery this works well as a stand alone treatment benefiting all skin layers.
For people with more severe sun-damage or aging surface skin changes this treatment can be combined with a laser targeting the skin’s surface or epidermal layer such as a CO2 (gentle) laser peel.
When do I see benefits and does everyone benefit?
Although benefits begin right after your treatment is completed, full benefits take 3-6 months
Note Ultraformer MPT on its own is not sufficient to address more severe degrees of skin laxity but is a good option in those wanting to prevent laxity and in those with mild to moderate skin laxity. Benefits from treatment are reduced in later years (60’s).
What are the risks?
Individuals differ in the benefits seen. This can be affected by age, general health, medications and smoking. The ultraformer MPT is a powerful device. Temporary nerve damage (numbness) can occur. Precautions are taken to avoid treating over nerve ‘danger spots’. Careful skin assessment, treatment planning and appropriate cartridge plus treatment mode and energy choice are important to your clinical outcomes.
We will ask about your medical history and any treatments you have had in the area to be treated. Some dermal fillers may be damaged by treatment. Although the DSB serum is designed for use on sensitive skin, allergy to one of its ingredients is possible.
